June 6, 1944. D-Day.
On D-Day, which was June 6, 1944, approximately 14,000 Canadian troops played a crucial role in the Allied invasion of Normandy. They landed on Juno Beach alongside British and other Allied forces. The Royal Canadian Navy contributed 80 vessels, while the Royal Canadian Air Force provided 18 squadrons in direct support of the assault. This historic event marked one of the pivotal moments of the Second World War, as Allied forces began the bloody campaign to liberate Western Europe from Nazi occupation.
